Now imagine winning the AEW Tag Team Championship with him instead.
Sting and Darby Allin defeated Big Bill and Ricky Starks in tonight’s main event to win the tag titles, Sting’s first championship since 2011.
Who knows why Sting wanted to win a championship one month before he was set to ride off into the sunset, but it was an entertaining spectacle nonetheless.
The moment of the match was Sting jumping off an upper section of the arena and landing on Big Bill and Ricky Starks.
If Sting can still do that at 64, then he can absolutely have one last one-on-one match, preferably with Darby. Unfortunately, that’s not something Sting seems keen on doing.
Anyways, there were some other cool spots in this match too.
The go-home sequence was also pretty exciting. Allin and Big Bill went through a table while Sting was in the ring applying the Scorpion Deathlock on Starks.
Sting then hit the Scorpion Deathdrop on Starks and the rest is history.
Alas, all good things must come to an end, because The Young Bucks crashed Sting and Darby’s celebration, setting up the retirement match next month at Revolution.
Honestly, with this most likely being Sting’s last championship win of his career. I would have loved for him to have this moment.
This attack could’ve easily took place next week, but I guess AEW wants as much heat on The Young Bucks as possible.
I will say, putting on white suits because they knew there was going to be blood is a masterclass touch on why The Bucks are one of the best in the biz.
Let’s just hope the match at Revolution doesn’t disappoint.
